About Skogstrollet

Skogstrollet began with a common problem: you want to visit a nature reserve, but do not know where the protected areas are and often do not know their names either.

A clearer place to begin

Many websites expect a fairly precise search. More advanced maps can have so many layers and symbols that the place you want is lost among everything else. That makes a simple question, such as which protected areas are nearby, harder than it needs to be.

Skogstrollet offers three straightforward ways to begin. Choose a county, look for nature close to a city or search the national map. You can then read about a place that catches your attention, even if its name was new to you.

The nature behind the site

Skogstrollet’s founder comes from Västernorrland and visits nature reserves and national parks throughout the year. The same curiosity drives the site: what is found in each place, what makes it different and how can someone reach the right information without knowing the area’s name first?

Personal highlights, not a ranking

The places highlighted on county and city pages are the founder’s own recommendations. They show distinctive sites and different sides of each county, but they are not a list of the best places. Ancient woodland, an open coast or a bird-rich lake will suit different people and different days.

The place comes first

Skogstrollet helps you find a protected area and understand what makes it worth exploring. Parking, shelters, toilets, food service and other practical arrangements can change and differ from place to place. Publishing a detail once is easy; keeping it accurate across more than 6,000 areas requires constant attention. Rather than risk showing stale information, Skogstrollet leaves those details to the responsible source. Once you have chosen an area, its official link takes you to current visitor information and local regulations.

A growing project

Skogstrollet is operated under the trading name Nyhem Studios. The site continues to develop as more places are reviewed and new needs become clear. Questions, corrections and suggestions are welcome by email.
