River corridor and wooded height
Hållet-Marieberg-Stenbro follows the Nyköpingsån through deciduous woodland in central Nyköping. Water and continuous tree cover form a green corridor across the built environment, connecting the city with landscapes upstream and downstream. Its low, river-led character contrasts directly with Ryssbergen.
South-east of the city, Ryssbergen rises beneath mixed conifer forest. From the summit, urban Nyköping, the more open Kiladalen valley and the surrounding wooded ridges can be understood as one landscape. Here elevation and forest structure matter more than proximity to water.
Meadows meeting the bay
Labro ängar occupies the transition between the city and Sjösafjärden. Grazed shore meadow, deciduous groves and veteran oaks create alternating open and sheltered ground. Snake’s-head fritillaries flower in spring, and about two hundred bird species have been recorded over time.
The three reserves trace a clear movement through Nyköping’s surroundings: from river and urban woodland to a conifer-covered height, then outward to coastal meadow and bird habitat. Each contributes a distinct part of the local landscape rather than repeating the same version of nearby nature.
