Beech woodland beside the Bergunda lakes
Bokhultet lies just south-west of the centre, combining beech and oak woodland, open pasture and parts of the Bergunda lakes. Great oaks reveal that the forest was once lighter and more open. Almost two hundred bird species have been recorded, while a newer wetland filters urban runoff before it reaches the lake.
East of the city, Fylleryd forms a much larger conifer landscape. Hilly woodland in the west becomes flatter towards Lake Toftasjön, interrupted by bogs, swamp forest and alder carr. Its scale allows the forest to retain a distinct character despite the nearby suburbs.
Pasture and wetland at Teleborg
Teleborg is visibly shaped by long use. Open fields, flower-rich pasture, veteran oaks and wild apple trees descend towards wetland at Skirviken. Crane, curlew and marsh harrier breed there beside the university and residential district.
The three reserves differ in more than direction: deciduous woodland and lake unite Bokhultet, conifer forest and wetter hollows define Fylleryd, while grazing and open wetland shape Teleborg. Together they give Växjö both enclosed woodland and light-filled working landscapes.
